A 63-year-old Maryland woman was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, as well as disorderly conduct, following an incident involving White House counselor Kellyanne Conway. In Maryland, second-degree assault is a misdemeanor and could result in up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $2,500.

According to Conway, she was attending her daughter’s birthday party at a Mexican restaurant in Maryland when she felt the woman grab her shoulders from behind in an aggressive manner. When Conway turned around, the woman allegedly started angrily yelling, grabbed Conway’s hands and shook her. After a few seconds of shaking her, the woman apparently continued to yell at Conway and make aggressive hand motions towards her for close to 10 minutes.

However, according to the woman’s attorney, the woman did not assault Conway, but rather just shared her personal opinions and behaved in accordance with her First Amendment rights.
